Keeping Ahead of Health Issues: Preventive Care

Preventive health care is an important element in getting healthy and staying that way. It just makes sense to catch problems before they become serious.

Preventive services, including exams, shots, tests, and screenings, are a key element of the well-rounded services Medicare provides.

These include abdominal aortic aneurysm screenings, alcohol misuse screenings, bone mass measurements (bone density), cardiovascular disease screenings, and colorectal cancer screenings.

They also include programs for health monitoring, counseling, and education.

If you have Medicare Part B, you're entitled to a free yearly "Wellness" visit.

Two-Way Policy

Life insurance and Long-Term-Care Insurance are popular types of coverage that we're proud to offer.

We're happy to make available a "hybrid" policy that can provide benefits for both life and Long-Term-Care (which more and more Americans are finding they need in some form).

If Long-Term-Care is not needed, the policy works much like a traditional life insurance policy, a death benefit is paid to a beneficiary when the insured person passes away.

Contact me to learn more about this innovative policy.

What is the difference between URGENT care and EMERGENCY care? Urgent care is non-emergency. It's considered a starting point if you have an illness or injury and can't see your primary doctor. Unlike most urgent care centers, the emergency room (ER) is usually a department in your local hospital. Medicare should help pay urgent care and emergency room costs.

Good Taste, Good Health

Grilled Steak and Pineapple Skewers

Light up the grill, savor some steak, and enjoy the taste and health benefits of fruit.

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 lb steak
  • 1/4 cup pineapple cut into cubes
  • 1/2 cup cherry tomatoes
  • 1/4 red onion cut into thick cubes
  • 1 yellow bell pepper cut into cubes
  • 1 cup Italian parsley rough chop
  • 3 cloves garlic smashed
  • 1/2 cup cilantro rough chop
  • 1/2 cup olive oil
  • 2 tbsp red wine vinegar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp pepper
  • 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes

DIRECTIONS:

On a wooden or metal skewer, add pieces of the steak, cherry tomatoes, pineapple, bell pepper and red onion. In a small food processor, blend the olive oil, parsley, cilantro, garlic, red wine vinegar, salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes until well combined. Pour half the chimichurri sauce over the skewers and marinade for at least 1 hour. Then grill for about 10 minutes on each side, until the steak is cooked though. Serve with the remaining chimichurri sauce on the side.

Cataracts and Your Vision

As so many seniors know, a cataract is a clouding and darkening of the lens of the eye. It is quite common among seniors and can cause blurry or indistinct vision.

It's estimated that one out of five persons over 65 has cataracts. 2

Cataracts are, in fact, considered the world's leading cause of blindness.

This month of June is Cataract Awareness Month.

Medicare will likely cover cataract surgery. There are usually some uncovered "gaps" (e.g., coinsurance) which Medicare Supplement Insurance can help pay. Contact me anytime for more information on this.
